All of us are children of life,
sustained by life,
fulfilled in sustaining life, and
called to live fresh,
alone and together,
on the edge of the unknown.
This life accommodates death, surprise, challenge and delight.
This life plays with edges, with shape-shifting,
with needing each other and needing independence,
with being a person and being nobody.
The biggest surprise, and challenge, is
that all those details and all that ordinariness, all that contact —
as parents, children, sisters, brothers, grandparents, neighbors,
as dying, discovering, living beings–
is one and the same with the spiritual path of awakening.
